Filmmaker Courtney Webster Joins Advice Project Media

Advice Project Media is pleased to announce that filmmaker Courtney Webster will be joining us this summer at our 2015 Global Leadership and Empowerment Summit for teen girls and women in Peru. Courtney is dedicated to making filmmaking more accessible to women, young people, and people of color, and she is concerned with the intersections between these identities. This summer, she’ll assist some of our teen fellows in scripting, directing, and making short films, and after the summit, she will remain in South America to work with Advice Project founder, Melissa Banigan, on video projects involving gender equality, conservation, and the rainforest.

Courtney has played many roles in films, including starring roles alongside Jim Fletcher in Zbigniew Bzymek’s film, Utopians (official selection of the International Film Festival Berlin in 2011), and in Steve Staso’s film, Cellar, which premiered in 2009 at the Chicago Underground Film Festival and the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California. Courtney was a producer for Tchaiko Omawale’s film, Solace, and she recently completed a documentary about a group of young artists who collaborated with muralist Lauryn Pepe and the Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School to make a mural in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans. Courtney’s first short film, “The Hustlers” (2008), which she wrote, directed, and produced, was screened in 2008 at the NY Underground Film Festival and at The M.A.L.I. fest in Austin Texas. In addition to her work with independent films, Courtney has worked on thousands of commercial projects over the last ten years with high-profile clients such as Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Dave Chappelle, Madonna, Rihanna, Scarlett Johansson, Google, and Brad Pitt. Courtney, who divides her time between New York and New Orleans, is both a master of the camera and the machete — when she isn’t working on a film project she can be found in a canoe in one of the swamps or bayous of Louisiana. Courtney brings a lot to the Advice Project Media table, and it’s a privilege to have her on board.
