You are your own fighter!
Believe, by Kyla Borg
Dear Destiny,
What are your dreams? Have you thought about them lately? I know in the past you wanted to be an author; or anything that involved writing really. It’s what you love, right? You’ve had all sorts of ideas before but haven’t followed through; like wanting to be a teacher or a make-up artist, a fashion designer or even a critic. What do you want to be now? An FBI agent who studies criminal behavior? Maybe in three weeks that’ll change too! Having all these dreams and options is amazing, but you have to want it. Destiny, you’re a brilliant girl and if you put your heart and soul into something, you can do it. The key to success takes a few steps, hard work and lots of dedication. You’ll face obstacles along the way like self-doubt and you may be knocked down, but you must fight through.
You are your own fighter!
I know you don’t know who you are, or what you want to do, but that’s okay. It’s normal. You’re a teenager. You’re going to make mistakes and experience some horrible and wonderful things. That’s the amazing part. Life is full of adventures so go ahead and be an FBI agent, or an author, or even a critic. BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE! It’s all about learning from your mistakes and I know that you’re up to the studying part of this test.
Have you thought about taking a year off from college and exploring your options? Maybe you can join a volunteer program. AmeriCorps might be an amazing opportunity for you. You know what it’s like growing up in a poverty-stricken area and helping struggling communities would be an unbelievable opportunity. Giving back and figuring out what you love would be a great way to use your time.
If you’re going to do something for the rest of your life, you have got to love what you’re doing. You don’t want to have a job; you want to have a career. Go at it with all you’ve got! Build something out of your talents. Talk to people with experience, take some internships, and do some research. Love what you do and do what you love and your “work” will no longer be considered a job to you. Do this, and every morning you’ll wake up excited because you’ll be doing what you want to do. There are many options for you in the world and you’ve got a huge list of ideas to choose from. You’re going to do great. I believe in you. You’re going to make it and it’s going be worth it.
With love,
Destiny
P.S. Be happy! xx

My name is Destiny. Some people call me Dez. I am 16-years-old, and will be turning 17 on the 4th of April. I live in the Bronx, New York, with my family. I don’t live with my father but I get to see him often. I am home with my mom, step-father and one of my brothers.
I have two brothers and a sister and another little brother on the way. I am currently homeschooled but I used to go to public school. I’m really into reading and writing and I write a lot of short stories for fun and read a lot. I’m also really into a TV show called Doctor Who. It’s amazing, and is about a time-traveling alien who saves planets. It’s hard to explain, but take my word for it that it’s amazing.
I like listening to music. I’m obsessed with zebras. They’re just so beautiful. I’m on a debate team, which is ironic because I’m shy and get nervous in front of people.
